天气预报简称什么？
“天气”英文为weather，所以“天气预报”的英文就是weatheropplication（简写为weather）。 那么用英语如何向别人解释什么是“天气预报”呢？ Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place. In other words， it is our global sky. It has everything to do with weather because it includes all of the atmosphere： air， water vapour， clouds， precipitation， temperatures and humidity. You can think of the "atmosphere" as space between Earth's surface and space！ All these elements come together in order to form weather.
The forecast is based on the analysis of this complex system that surrounds us. We use this same information to make predictions about severe storms， tornadoes， floods or freezes. The National Weather Service does not predict “pleasant” days. Rather， they are focused on the day’s safety and preparedness. And so we should be.
If you were able to go back in time 100 years， what would you see？ You might see someone wearing a top hat， gloves and long sleeves to protect themselves from the sun. They may have lived through one or more “polar vortexes”， where cold blasts of arctic air threaten life and cause power outages. Or maybe you could talk to someone who was there for JFK’s assassination， when a bullet ripped through clear blue skies and changed the course of history forever.
In just the last decade alone， weather has transformed into something entirely different than it had been decades before. Advances in technology have allowed us to see farther back in time， capture higher resolution images， and gather faster accurate data on systems once unknowable. But with every new advance comes new questions， like how will artificial intelligence change forecasting？ Will we be able to detect and prevent harmful human-caused impacts on the climate before catastrophic change becomes irreversible？ How will extreme heat， drought， fire， flooding and windstorms continue to affect hundreds of millions of people in the future？
